Kizhi Island

I don’t know about you, but I always wanted to get to Kizhi Island . As far back as I can remember, I have been fascinated by wooden architecture since childhood. From one type of ordinary log house, goose bumps appeared, and at the sight of carved patterns and wooden domes, a stupor came at all. Whether some roots in me woke up, or genes – I have no idea …

Kizhi Island “>It is known that, unfortunately, wood is a short-lived material; it, like humans, is subject to aging. True, he, a tree, has a lot more life measured than us mortals. Therefore, now we have the opportunity to admire the remains of ancient Russian wooden architecture in all its glory.

It is mainly concentrated in the north of Russia. In the south, it seems to me, not a single wooden building of the 17th – 19th centuries has survived, not to mention the buildings of an earlier time, there are some such buildings in Kizhi.

But on the #Kizhi island, where the Kizhi Museum-Reserve is now formed, there is a whole wooden # city, getting into which, all those who suffer for wooden art, like me, can enjoy the graceful beauty and skill of the hands of our ancestors.

They worked, as you know, without nails and all kinds of metal brackets. This is someone who has the experience to learn from modern builders!

The only problem is getting to the island, which is known to be located in the north Lake Onega , not so simple.

Of course, transport links with the mainland here is regular. Rumor has it that especially impatient # travelers can get to the Kizhi Nature Reserve in winter. I have no idea how much it might cost?

We got here during the cruise “St. Petersburg – Moscow”. Also, the trip is not cheap, but believe me, it was worth it.

Enjoy it!
