How we became participants in the high-speed duel between the motor ships “Princess Victoria” and “Mstislav Rostropovich”

For the first time with the motor ship “Princess Victoria” we happened to meet at the pier “Utkina Zavod” in St. Petersburg. Then it was not possible to consider this four-deck handsome man, since he stood with his nose towards us, hiding, so to speak, all his beauty.

After registering for the # cruise “St. Petersburg – Moscow”, which we had to make on the motor ship “MSTISLAV ROSTROPOVICH” , first of all we went to the sun deck. *

* The sun deck is the uppermost deck of the passenger ship. From it, as a rule, the most interesting and exciting view opens.

The first thing we saw was the m/v “Princess Victoria”, because it was located closest to us.

Then we did not know yet that we would have to follow practically the same route and that an exciting high-speed duel on the Svir River in the Leningrad Region awaited us.

data-points = “5”>Just imagine, two four-deck machines are measuring their strength on the river, the banks of which are almost close to each other. In general, you should have seen it!

We spent the entire third day of our cruise on the Svir River

Behind there was already a visit to the Holy Trinity Alexander Svirsky monastery and the tourist village of Verkhnie Mandrogi.

The day was coming to an end and the sun was going down … It seemed that there were enough impressions for today and nothing else would happen to us.

Our m/v “Mstislav Rostropovich” confidently cut the water surface of the beautiful Svir. Some of the passengers went to the concert, someone, including your humble servant, remained on the deck to admire the truly unique beauty of the Russian North.

When suddenly a point loomed on the horizon. It grew in size every minute until it became clear that this was a passenger ship.

And when the name of the ship at the stern became readable, we realized to our great surprise that it was the already familiar Princess Victoria.

Every minute the distance between us narrowed until we drew level with the boards and went on parallel courses.

For a moment it even seemed to me that we slowed down a little to look at each other.

To our surprise, the passengers of the m/v “Princess Victoria” showed absolutely no interest in us, with the exception of a girl who ran out onto the deck to take a photo of our ship (this can be clearly seen in the video).

In a moment, we first overtook the “Princess” by half a building. And then they completely left her far behind.

And her captain had no choice but to “wave his pen to us”.

Such a high-speed duel took place on the Svir River.
